Maker Faire Africa is a celebration of African ingenuity, innovation and creation. Here you will find the Makers who showed their work at the 2010 event in Nairobi Kenya. Work ranges from time saving devices for agriculture to alternative energy sources from design with recycled objects to social media applications for mobile phones. Map Kibera has produced the first complete free and open map of Kibera. In November 2009, local youth were taught to create maps using OpenStreetMap techniques. This included surveying with GPS, digitization of satellite imagery and paper based annotation with Walking Papers.

NEXT STEP

Looking for exposure to influence others to map more neighborhoods. A sister of this initiative is the Voice of Kibera Project, which uses the map system for gathering reports through SMS.
